Together with Leone Heideman, I have been looking into some options to continue the series of meetings of this Book Club. I am excited to let you know that I met with a young Dutch/Iranian author named Maral Noshad Sharifi. She lives here in New York City and she is a correspondent for the Volkskrant. She has written a beautiful book about her life as a refugee in Holland with her family and there are very interesting reflections on her family's history in Iran/Persia. The book is called "Citroeninkt". The book is very captivating and I just cannot put it down. The story is happy and sad and is about the amazing resilience of a very smart, feisty girl who has a foot in both worlds. Maral is available on April 16th at 6:30 PM to meet with our Book Club at 425 West 50th St. NYC (Stella Tower). We will then discuss her book together and she will provide additional background and context on why and how she wrote it. Please let us know if you would like to join us for this meeting. About the author: Maral Noshad Sharifi (Teheran, 1989) is journalist, schrijver en documentairemaker. Ze studeerde journalistiek aan Columbia University in New York waar ze in 2012 afstudeerde. Nu woont ze in Brooklyn als Verenigde Statencorrespondent voor de Volkskrant. Citroeninkt is haar debuutroman. She graduated from the Columbia Journalism School in 2012. Her book won the Opzij Literatuurprijs, a feminist literary Award. Donner, the biggest bookstore in Rotterdam, declared Citroeninkt Debut of the Year 2023. Looking forward to seeing you soon.
