It is with great sadness that I inform you that our friend Jippe Hiemstra, former President of The Netherland Club of New York, passed away at his home in upstate New York in the presence of his loving wife and family members over the Easter weekend following a lengthy battle with pulmonary complications.
Jippe served The Netherland Club of New York as President from 1996 to 2002, having moved to the United States in 1975 enjoying a successful business career and social life, including participation in the Westchester and Privateers Field Hockey Club activities. One of the highlights as president was the spectacular celebration of TNC’s Centennial with then Crown Prince Willem Alexander and his fiancé Maxima as the guests of honor. After his successful tenure, he continued to be a very engaged and enthusiastic member, visiting events and serving on several Committees.
Jippe will be remembered by many as a fine person with a sharp sense of humor, sincere, straightforward with passion for matters pertaining to all things Dutch and the Netherland Club. He struck an enviable balance between love for his country (and region) of birth and his adopted country of residence. Those who knew him and worked with him will take pride in having done so. He will be deeply missed by me, and by all those who knew him well.
Jippe leaves behind his wife Annette, to whom we offer our deepest sympathy and condolences. Our thoughts are with her and with Jippe’s family at this time.
