This year The Netherland Club of NY is a partner of the NY International Children’s Film Festival, which takes place from February 22nd through March 17th at venues throughout NYC.

This Oscar-qualifying Festival is the largest and most prestigious festival for families in North America. It presents a rich array of artful, imaginative, complex, eye-opening films that allow children to travel the world and explore complicated issues from new perspectives. The festival includes countless premieres, filmmaker Q&As, workshops, parties and special preview screenings for children and families.

MY EXTRAORDINARY SUMMER WITH TESS

This year’s Festival includes a celebration of Dutch filmmaking with the North American premiere of the film to screen adaptation of Anna Woltz’s ‘My Extraordinary Summer with Tess‘. Sam (10) meets Tess during a holiday on the Dutch island of Terschelling. She is a peculiar girl who has an ingenious plan for getting to know her birth father. She’s got just one week to make his acquaintance, and she decides that Sam should help her. Although Sam is forcing himself to practice being alone to protect himself from future grief, he discovers during his adventures with Tess how important family really is.Recommended ages: 10+  |  82 min.

FRIENDS & NEIGHBORS: DUTCH SHORT FILMS

NYICFF crossed the Atlantic to pair up with far-flung Friends & Neighbors this year. Featuring a range of different cultures and themes—from Old Amsterdam to New York—and fresh stories that keep history alive.

There are two diverse and breathtaking programs of Dutch Short Films, in collaboration with Dutch Film Festival Cinekid. One program with a selection of short films from The Netherlands for age 7 and older. And a second Friends & Neighbors program with a selection of short films from The Netherlands for age 10 and older.
